Connect any Android device to Linux Kali 2019.xx.

You will need MTP Tools for that or jmtpfs (easier and well documented).

NOTE: mtp-tools doesn't come pre-installed in Linux Kali !

Connect any Android device to Linux Kali 2019.xx.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install mtp-tools

Unplug the USB cable.

Then reconnect your Android device and it should now be recognized as expected.

Check for other installation:

sudo dpkg --get-selections | grep -v deinstall | grep -i mtp

Remove current, if any installation is found:

sudo apt-get remove mtp-server

Press Enter,

Then re-install:

sudo apt-get install mtp-tools

Press Enter, done. Connect your smartphone.

IMPORTANT: If this doesn't work, do the following.

Install jmtpfs instead, its easier and well documented.

Open a terminal window and type:

sudo apt-get install jmtpfs

Press Enter, then create a mounting point directory.

Type the following:

sudo mkdir /media/myphone

( replace myphone.. with the correct name of your smartphone )

Press enter, then:

  • Connect the USB cable.
  • Unlock the android phone.
  • Swipe down from the top of the phone screen.
  • You should see a notification "USB ..."
  • Tap the notification.
  • You should see a menu titled "Use USB to...", select "Transfer files".
  • Then...

Type the following three commands:

sudo jmtpfs /media/myphone

Press Enter,

ls /media/myphone

Press Enter,

fusermount -u /media/myphone

Press Enter,

chmod 777 /tmp/myphone

Press Enter, now your smartphone should be connected and mounted, but if you don't see anything listed in the window of your smartphone, then there are some rights issues you need to look into.

If you for some reason created a /media/myphone, here is how to unmount it and delete it:

sudo fusermount -u /media/myphone

Press Enter,
