Linux “packages” are collections of software and here are a few ways to quickly check whether a package is currently installed or not.

Type the following command to list all installed packages:

apt list --installed

Press Enter, done.

Find a specific package, by typing:

apt list --installed gedit

Press Enter, done.

You can also use DPKG to find packages, by typing:

dpkg -s packagename

Press Enter, done.

If you prefer using a GUI-based search and find, I recommend Synaptic package manager.
