Foremost is a forensic program for recovering lost files

Foremost is a forensic program for recovering lost files based on their headings, footer and internal data structures.

Preferably, work with image files, such as those generated by dd, safeback, encase, etc. or directly on a device.

The headings and footers can be specified by a configuration file, or you can use command line switches to specify embedded file types.

These built-in types look at data structures in a particular file format, allowing for more reliable and faster recovery.
