List Directory Content


List directory content, using a simple terminal command.

Here is a list of 10 different commands to list files and directories in Linux.

Notice the ",", is not to be included in the command !

List directory content.

Open up a terminal window and test the following commands:

  1. ls, Press Enter. (Most common)
  2. echo *, Press Enter.
  3. echo */*, Press Enter (List all files, down one level)
  4. echo * .*, Press Enter (List all hidden files)
  5. printf '%s\n' *, Press Enter. (Will list all files and directories)
  6. dir, Press Enter. (List the current directory contents)
  7. dir /home/Username/directory, Press Enter. (List the contents of a specific directory)
  8. dir -a, Press Enter. (List all contents including hidden files)
  9. find -maxdepth 1, Press Enter.
  10. find ., Press Enter

These commands will show you all content, even hidden files.
