OpenArena first person shooter game, is a free replacement for id Software Inc.’s Quake 3 Arena, but it is not compatible with the proprietary game.
OpenArena’s gameplay is exactly the same as Quake III Arena – score frags to win the game using a balanced set of weapons each designed for different situations.
Gameplay modes exist such as deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Tournament, and Capture The Flag (all modes also in the original game). OpenArena version 0.7.6 adds the new Elimination, CTF Elimination, Last Man Standing and Double Domination gametypes.
OpenArena contains Mature Content, such as a lot of blood and guts that stain the level with animation and sound accompanying it, and some characters wear next to nothing (but no nudity).
It uses the ioquake3 game engine, a project which aims to build upon id Software’s Quake 3 source code release.
