Unison is an open file synchronization tool for Linux

Unison is an open file synchronization tool for OSX, Unix and Windows released under the GNU license that allows two copies of a collection of files and directories to be stored on different hosts (or different disks on the same host), changes individually and then actualized by propagating the changes in each replica to the other.

Unison shares a number of features with programs like CVS, PRCS, Subversion, BitKeeper, etc.), distributed file systems (Coda, etc.), uni-directional mirroring utilities (rsync, etc.), and other synchronizers (Intellisync, Reconcile, etc ), but there are several points in which it differs:

Unlike simple mirroring or backup tools, Unison can handle updates to both copies of a distributed directory structure. Updates that do not collide are automatically updated. Contrary updates are detected and displayed.

Unlike a distributed file system, Unison is a user-level program: there is no need to change the kernel or have super user rights on each host.
Unison operates between two machines that are connected to the Internet, which communicate over either a direct socket link or tunnel over an encrypted ssh connection.
Unison is careful to leave copies and their own private structures in a sensible state all the time, even in case of abnormal termination or communication errors.
