MagTek Databreach Leaked Online

English

MagTek Databreach Leaked Online.

The company MagTek is a leading provider of payments and identification technology with over forty years of experience developing breakthrough innovations that have helped shape the industry and set new international standards for the reliability, security, and speed of electronic transactions.

They design, build and manufacture premier hardware and secure web services to protect the identity, assets, and safety of individuals and businesses all over the world.

MagTek was hacked in May, 2022 and the leak was Posted on the Lorenz ransomware site on May 19th, 2022.

The total size of the leak is 150GB divided into 25 parts of compressed 7zip archives and is available for anyone to download from the leak site.

The leak contains everything from confidential documents to business secrets, customers and more which would benefit any competitors.

How the Lorenz gang works:

Lorenz uses the double-extortion model by stealing data before encryption.

To pressure victims into paying the ransom, the Lorenz gang who emerged in 2021, first makes the data available for sale to other threat actors or business competitors.

Payment demands range from $500,000 to $700,000 and their Malware attacks are customized for Windows.

In this case it seems that MagTek has decided not to pay the ransom and nobody else has purchased the data, so the Lorenz gang have made it publicly available for download and provided the password needed to unlock the archive.

I could not find any mention on MagTeks homepage about the breach and it seems only one site has reported about the MagTek breach.

At the time of writing Lorenz has 29 businesses ( victims ) listed.
