Netflix launches feature to fight freeloaders

Netflix launches feature to fight freeloaders.

The streaming giant suggests that 30 million families in Canada and the US and over 100 million households worldwide violate their policy by sharing accounts.

Neflix experienced a subscriber loss for the first time in a decade, with over 200,000 viewers canceling their subscriptions in the first three months of 2022.

The development caused Netflix’s stock to plunge about 30%.

Increased inflation and the war in Ukraine, which prompted Netflix to shut down its services in Russia, thus losing 700,000 accounts caused raised plan prices.

Netflix has been for quite some time exploring different ways for people who want to share their account to pay a bit more.

Whats happening:

In March, 2022 the company launched an “add extra member” feature in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru.

In August, 2022 Netflix will launch an alternative “add a home” feature in Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Anyone seeing a pattern for South/ Latin-America ?

Each Netflix account will include one home. To use the account in additional homes, users will need to pay approximately $3 per month in addition to their monthly subscription price.

Note: They already detect if one persons account is logged in on 2-3 other devices and if all together reaches 5 devices, you can't access NetFlix.
