Why Using Cisco Could Be Bad Business

Why Using Cisco Could Be Bad Business.

Cisco will not patch VPN routers that have reached EOL. ( RV110W, RV130, RV130W and RV215W ).

A recently discovered zero-day bug (CVE-2022-20923) caused by a faulty password validation algorithm, let hackers exploit and log into the VPN on vulnerable devices using what the company describes as "crafted credentials" if the IPSec VPN Server feature is enabled.

"The attacker may obtain privileges that are the same level as an administrative user, depending on the crafted credentials that are used."

To find out if IPSec VPN Server is enabled on your router, you have to log in to the web-based management interface and go to:

VPN > IPSec VPN Server > Setup.

If the "Server Enable" check box is checked, your device is exposed to the CVE-2022-20923 exploitation.

Note: The affected RV Series routers were last available for order on December 2, 2019 and there are no workarounds for this problem. Here are a list of the products vulnerable.

"Customers are encouraged to migrate to Cisco Small Business RV132W, RV160, or RV160W Routers."

While I understand that they want to sell more, they should patch older models to a minimum of 5 years.

Here is my advice:

Look at competitors to try and find replacements instead:

There are more out there, just search for them...
